Grants.gov Registration Made Simple: EBiz POC, AOR, and Workspace Explained

SAM.gov gets you recognized by the federal government. Grants.gov is where you actually apply for most federal grants. 📝 Here's how to set it up without the headache.

đź”— Step 0: SAM.gov must be active first

Your organization's SAM.gov registration has to be active before you can apply in Grants.gov. That's why we did SAM.gov first.

👤 Step 1: Know your EBiz POC

When you registered in SAM.gov, you named an Electronic Business Point of Contact (EBiz POC). This is the gatekeeper for your organization in Grants.gov. Often it's the executive director or founder.

🖥️ Step 2: Create the Grants.gov account

The EBiz POC creates a Grants.gov account using the same email address listed for them in SAM.gov. Then they add an organization applicant profile using your UEI.

🔑 Step 3: Assign roles

  • AOR (Authorized Organization Representative) — the person allowed to officially submit applications for your organization

  • Workspace Manager — can create and manage application workspaces

  • Custom roles — for staff or grant writers helping you

The EBiz POC assigns these roles. Tip: always have at least two people who can submit, so one sick day doesn't cost you a grant. 🙏🏾

đź“‚ Step 4: Use Workspace

Workspace lets your team fill out different forms of an application at the same time, save progress, and check for errors before submitting.

⏰ Step 5: Submit early

Submit days before the deadline, not minutes. After submission, watch for the confirmation and validation emails. A late or rejected submission usually cannot be fixed after the deadline.

🧑🏾‍🤝‍🧑🏾 Individuals vs. organizations

Most federal grants for housing and reentry are for organizations, not individuals. That's another reason a properly formed nonprofit matters.
