🏠 Tribe, What Happens Before Move-In—and After Move-Out—Matters

Hello, Halfway House MasterMind Tribe! 👋🏾

Opening the doors is one step. Building a program that helps people move forward takes planning, partnerships, and a trained house manager.

This week’s housing developments give us some practical lessons. Let’s get into it! 👇🏾

📰 WHAT’S HAPPENING

1. Housing belongs in the conversation BEFORE release. An October 29 report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition recommends connecting people to housing during pre-release planning and strengthening partnerships between housing providers and justice-system organizations. These are recommendations, not a new national requirement.

2. Partnerships are helping expand recovery housing. A November 2 report announced 16 additional CADAS recovery apartments in Chattanooga, bringing its apartment inventory to 40. The project brought together housing, government, banking, and behavioral-health partners.

3. The next housing step needs attention, too. October 28 reporting highlighted Healing Transitions’ planned 17 apartments for women and children in Raleigh, expected in early 2027. It also described a North Carolina operator beginning residents’ next-housing searches around month three of a yearlong program.

🎯 MY TAKEAWAYS FOR OUR TRIBE

âś… Prepare your referral process. Make sure partners know who you serve, what documents you need, and how to confirm an available bed.

âś… Give your house manager a transition checklist. Review income, housing applications, transportation, and barriers to moving forward.

âś… Look beyond how many beds are filled. Track successful move-outs and residents who are ready to leave but cannot find suitable housing.

âś… Budget the whole operation. Include staffing, furnishings, repairs, utilities, and transportation when planning an expansion.

These local projects offer ideas to study. They do not establish national occupancy trends or guarantee results for another program.

Your assignment this week: Pick ONE of those four areas and make a concrete improvement. Reply and tell me which one you’re working on! 💪🏾
